DUCK WOODS COUNTRY CLUB
Opening in 1969, Duck Woods Country Club is the oldest golf course on the Outer Banks. A private club with an open to public guest policy, Duck Woods is a highly regarded par 72 course that is cut through the maritime forest.
In addition to the course, the Club features outstanding tennis and fitness facilities, a pool and award winning food in the clubhouse. There are two boat marinas and a town park for the use of the property owners only.
There are two shopping districts in Southern Shores, and they are the only locations that businesses are permitted.
The Marketplace is one of the largest shopping areas on the Outer Banks and features a Food Lion, CVS Drugstore, Starbucks and restaurants.
Southern Shores Crossing is at the intersection of NC 12 and US 158 as NC 12 heads north to Duck and Corolla. Outer Banks residents and regular visitors know it as the home of Coastal Provisions, a specialty grocery store, deli and restaurant that carries an excellent variety of gourmet foods, a great selection of specialty beers and wine and an outstanding oyster bar.
Southern Shores Streets
Because the town was created from a maritime forest, the streets of Southern Shores rarely go in a straight line, and they can be somewhat confusing. There are, as an example, three Dogwood Trails – East Dogwood, North Dogwood and South Dogwood. Some of the streets dead end after meandering through the maritime forest; others loop back on themselves.
